Season of Thankfulness

on November 19, 2012

We are in full swing of my favorite month and ready or not, the holidays are at the door!
November is almost gone.

We have barely had time to enjoy the leaves changing and savor the season of thanks.   The essence of Thanksgiving including the Mayflower, pilgrims and Plymoth Rock have all been crowded out by the fast pace of life along with the twinkling lights, Christmas music and the pressure to shop for presents.

How easy it is for all of us to get so caught up in our day to day, rushing to one activity to the next, that we forget what to be thankful and reflect of the season from which it was birthed.

When the first pioneers came to America, they dreamed of a place of freedom
This dream and desire was stronger than all the hardships and opposition they went through.

They were just so thankful to be in a new land to be able to start over and have a fresh start with freedom from oppression.

Isn’t it interesting that the more we have, the less grateful it seems we become.

I love and believe the saying that “those who are forgiven much, love much”.
And I say ” those who know loss and hard times understand gratitude”.

As we head into this week of thankfulness, may we slow down enough to look at our circumstances as opportunities for what we DO have instead of what we don’t.

May find the glimmer of hope in each trial and reconnect to our dreams and desires to keep our resolve to live our lives vibrantly healthy.

We have so many blessings, let’s begin to count them, starting from those who sacrificed so we could have a land of freedom, to the warm bed we sleep on, and even the clothes your loved one always throws on the floor.

When you look at those clothes, it’s an opportunity to be thankful for the person on the other side of the “mess” and that they are even in your life to “make it”…

May you approach this Thanksgiving with gratitude instead of dread.. And may it be the best one yet!
