"ONE bite at a time!" ~Organic~Nourishing~Energizing~

NOT a RACE!

on October 31, 2012

The “PINK RACE” is winding down, but the puffs of air fresheners and hair spray cranking out is still ON!

I am finding the saying “Ignorance is Bliss” more true now than ever.

The more I know, the more amazed I am of how ironic and contradictory the messages are in gyms, stores and kids’ activity centers.

The push for the pink along with the craze of candy has left me feeling like I was just transported here from another planet.

I am becoming more keenly aware that most of us give because we care, but without being aware that we are doing the very things to contribute to the possibility for needing the campaign for ourselves.

There’s not much we can do about the toxins that seem to “rain” down on us everywhere we go.  From air fresheners spritzing out on us in bathrooms, to bleach and other toxic cleaners in every business we walk into, we are surrounded by aromas that have not been tested for safety, but are freely dispersed in our air for all to breathe.

However, there are things we CAN control and these “little” things we do daily can actually add up to huge results.

We have the power to choose if we want these results to be health promoting or on the contrary, damaging.

A few simple things you can begin to transition to decrease your toxic load and keep you less likely to need the Race for the Cure.

I will share only the top 5 to help you begin incorporating some healthier options to your daily regime ( I will share more coming up).

1. FIRST on my list is to decrease and eventually replace refined sugar with alternatives like stevia, dates, raw honey and grade B maple syrup.

Cancer loves sugar, so give it less food to munch and grow on! Click Here to see my recent presentation on what sugar does to the body.

2. Switch out deodorants that have Aluminum with ones that have only safe ingredients (read here to find out why making the switch is so important).
The BEST and easiest option is to do it yourself!

I have always thought of this as a “granola mama” thing and since I was “addicted” to every kind of deodorant and nothing really worked for long, this has been a late transition on my health journey.

However, it’s one of the MOST IMPORTANT personal care products to replace.
Check out this easy recipe that actually REALLY WORKS!!

Deodorant:

I use 5 T coconut oil (warm to a liquid form)
4-5 T aluminum free baking soda

1 T arrowroot
2-3 drops melaleuca (for dryness)

2 drops of your favorite essential oils smell: lavendar, orange, rose, etc.

ANOTHER DEODORANT RECIPE

6 tablespoons of coconut oil,

3 tablespoons of baking soda

3 tablespoons of non-gmo corn starch or arrowroot

Add you favorite essential oils as desired

Mix all together and add to an empty wind up deodorant despenser (wind all the way down first, pour in the mixed ingredients, put lid on and then put into fridge).

You can also put in a jar and scoop out with your hands and apply if desired.

I also recommend using the poetic pits by Living Libations.
Nadine Artemis uses essentials oils to make a few versions that are lovely.  Go to the link here.

3. Begin replacing ALL AEROSOL
sprays with pump versions.

Breathing in the fumes from these pressurized cans are toxic for us and the environment. Click here for more information on why aerosol sprays can be toxic.

I love hairspray from Organic Excellence.  Check it out here.

4. Lose the lead (and other toxic ingredients)  lipstick.

I know this is a taboo topic, as we all love our beautiful, luscious lips.

We can still have this but with products that do not contain lead, Parabens, fillers, animal products and other chemically derived ingredients.

Transitioning from Revlon, Mac, Loreal and our other convenient make-up lines can seem daunting, as most of us are attached to certain brands and products, but I encourage you to begin replacing them with non-toxic and safe alternatives as you run out.

Click Here for a recent study by the FDA found over 400 shades of the most popular lipsticks contained lead.

I love Living Libations entire line of personal care products. Go to the Living Libations link here.Essential Oils

However, if you want to transition and use safe and non-toxic products, Arbonne also has so many options.

5. Alkalize your body.

A simple daily habit is to add fresh squeezed organic lemon juice to your water first thing in the morning and throughout the day.

This will keep your body in a more alkaline state so disease is less likely to take up residence in your bodily “home”. For more information click here. Another great source of information is here.

Continue reading and researching WHY this is important and you will become more aware of some of the contributors to our rising cancer rate and the need to raise money for a “cure”!

All the” dos and don’ts” can seem to be ” all too much”, so just start with ONE thing; master it, then add in another positive change.

You will be surprised at how far you get on your health journey just by making ONE simple step at a time.

Remember, it’s not a race… so don’t require it to be one!

ENJOY YOUR JOURNEY!!

Blessings,

Dotty 🙂
