Cacao Your Life!!!

on October 19, 2012

Hearing the word, chocolate invokes all kinds of emotions.

For most of us, it’s the feeling of love, euphoria and comfort.

These feelings are not by accident.

Unfortunately, chocolate has gotten a “bad wrap” and is now placed in the “can’t have” category for our dietary waist slimming plan.

As is the case with many of foods these days, a healthy food in its original state has been processed and altered to create a version of it, but stripping the vital nutrients.

Chocolate comes from the Cacao seed (nut) of a fruit from an indigenous American jungle tree. The cacao grows in a pod on the trunk of this tree. Inside of the pod is the outer fruit and then white pulp and nuts. Inside of these nuts is where cacao as we know it today is derived from.

Cacao is possibly the oldest word ever, being traced back over 15,000 years.

It was the trading commodity of choice instead of gold in ancient Mexico.
Cacao has been used for centuries and traced back to 1500 BC and was used by the Olmec Indians.

The Mexican leader, Montezuma, was said to have drank up to 50 cups of cacao a day.  This was not the sweet “Yahoo”, but rather a bitter drink which was also used in rituals and well known for its many benefits.

The Spanish explorer Cortez was introduced this amazing superfood by Montezuma and consequently brought it back to Spain.

Although originally consumed as a bitter drink, the Spanish began to add cane sugar to sweeten the elixir in 16th Century Europe.

As innovative as man is, they found a way to process it for mass consumption.

Although this is great news that we get the opportunity to partake of this life enhancing, mood elevating jewel, the way in which most are consuming it lacks the health benefits and on the contrary are getting ill effects.

Because “chocolate” is actually “cooked”, it causes the essential fatty acids to become rancid and strips away its vital nutrients.

Of course, the refined sugar used to sweeten it becomes a toxic cocktail to spike insulin levels and create havoc in the body.

Add in some pasteurized milk products and you have an intolerance waiting to happen from the lack of lactase to break down the lactose.

However, Cacao in its RAW form, without adding dairy and refined sugars is actually highly nutritious.

Incorporating RAW Cacao in one’s daily diet is key to a healthy and happy life.   It is so widely craved for very good reasons.

Cacao has been widely researched and studied for its health promoting benefits.

Antioxidants are key to preventing the accelerated aging and disease in our bodies.

“The Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry” in 2003 reported that cacao had much higher concentration of antioxidants than other well known sources of antioxidants such as black tea, green tea and red wine. Cacao’s ORAC value beats out out goji berries and any other super food.”

They key antioxidant, beta-sitosterol, in cacao plays a protective role against the development of cancer.

It also has components that are heart protective by increasing blood circulation as well as lowering cholesterol.

Women are susceptible to having decreased magnesium level and PMS that for many can be debilitating and life altering.  There is a reason there is the notorious “chocolate crave” during that “time of the month”.  Our bodies intuitively know we need this mineral, so we crave chocolate, which is richer in magnesium than any other food source.

Bones also reap the benefits of this amazing “superfood” as magnesium is also key element in absorbing and utilizing calcium.  Cacao is also rich in phosphorus, which is also critical in building strong bones.

It is also the highest natural source of iron, chromium and manganese, which are important for blood building and stabilizing blood sugar.

Zinc and Copper are rich in the cacao nut and are extremely important for a healthy nervous system.

The forgetfulness and brain fog that many women complain of can be helped with the component in Cacao called theobromine.  Among many of the wonderful things it can do for the body, it also promotes mental clarity and alertness, which has been noted to also help children.

Cacao also combats the particular bacteria that is primarily responsible for causing cavities.

Chocolate is almost synonymous with love and romance.  The reason behind this is not just because it tastes good, but because of the natural bliss chemical, in Cacao called anandamide. This the chemical in the brain produced when someone is in love or happy.

Eating Raw Cacao daily will help support our moods, health and vitality.

The best news ever is that we do not have to say “NO” to something that is so delicious and wonderful! WE can actually eat it joyfully and with confidence knowing we are actually doing something amazing for our bodies!!

Sweetened with raw honey, maple syrup or dates and combining with other superfoods will elevate our life to new heights!!

Giving your kids this healthy “treat” will also let them feel empowered that they can indulge in something that is super awesome for them!

Get them in the fun of life, empower them with healthy versions of the “treats” that are really and give them something that is not “tricking” their bodies instead!

Make sure you are getting your Cacao that is from a free-trade source as well.

Eat your Raw Chocolate and LOVE YOUR BODY!
